THIS BLOG is to record my attempts to get back in shape -- and to reflect on what I learned from my training last year. I'm making it public just for those who want to know how one octagenarian grapples with aging.
I BEGAN IT LAST YEAR to keep track of my training for an 80-mile ride on my 80th birthday, September 28. That ride behind me, I stopped riding. By March, I was thoroughly out of shape. Will I regain the vitality I had last September. Come along and see!

I slept for about 9 hours -- with an Ambien boost around 3:00 -- and woke up with little energy. Now, at 10:20, I'm consciously exerting myself as little as possible, because I feel playing in this afternoon's concert is going to be a strain.
